“Fall” Awareness Through Movement® – Capability With One Leg to Stand On: 5 Influential Lessons


…class was several days after I’d had a pretty serious fall at home. I sprained my wrist, bone bruise on the ischium, and compacted my spine. It’s all been very painful, but the thing that really upset me was that I felt like I was in shock all the time. Some of the class was too painful for me to do, but the biggest and best result for me was that at the end of class I felt I knew who and where I was again: “oh—I’m still here—this is me!” Magical mystery miracle! Sometimes we retain habits and patterns of posture, movement, or thinking that date back to childhood. Sometimes we lose capabilities and flexibilities of our youth. When are habitual patterns useful or no longer useful?

I initially titled this notice “Autumn” ATM to avoid the notion of falling. AND YET, that’s what happened! Mid April, I fell, broke an ankle, had surgery, and entered a rehab facility. From the get-go I appreciated the benefits of taking and teaching Awareness Through Movement lessons. I felt lessons at work for 3 months as I adapted to life with only one leg to stand on!

This upcoming series of 5 lessons reflects those integrated functional effects and capability. I suspected I had them and did not know for sure until they were called up in my recovery process. The Feldenkrais Method® of learning through movement invites us to think, feel, imagine, sense and move. Good for your brain and your body with however many feet, ankles, knees and hips are available to you!

I’m offering classes Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings. The weekly content will be similar for each class. Create a floor space that allows you to slide and move easily; so a towel or sheet rather than a yoga mat will be useful. The lessons engage your thinking, sensing, feeling, imagining and moving. They can be challenging, puzzling, and FUN!

You will benefit from one or from all 5. These will be 3 on the floor lessons, 1 sitting, and 1 standing. Dress comfortably. Newcomers welcome!

Fee: $15/lesson, or $60 for 5 lessons
